|Carlos Jn.Baptiste was born in 1964 in
Deschapelles, Artibonite Valley, Haiti. In 1978, he began an
apprenticeship with Saincilus Ismael, the father of the Artibonite Style of painting. This
style is distinctive for the use of distinct patterns in
the foliage, as well as colorful dress set in lush landscapes.
Ismael spoke of Carlos as the best of all his
apprentices, numbering more than one hundred and fifty.|
