Born in Port-au-Prince
in 1938, Ernst first entered the work force in the tax section of Customs.
As early as 1951, he enrolled in the Centre d’Art where he studied under
Wilmino Domond. Later enrolling in the Academy of Fine Arts shortly after
its founding in 1959, he further his studies with George Ramponeau. A
prolific, full-time painter, with an impressionist style and a heavy palette
knife technique, Louizor has exhibited in Europe and the U.S. and his works
hang in many private collections. He generally paints the market place,
seascapes, and combinations of the two.
Considered the leading impressionist painter of
Haiti, Ernst has formed many disciples among his brothers. His wife Guerda,
who is a full time nurse and mother, paints as
well.
