Born approximately 1954, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Fritz
Monsanto began painting at age 20. His early work often depicted dogs and cats
in lush landscapes, but in 1985 he began to paint in a whimsical narrative
style. He created clever fantasy villages inhabited by dressed cats engaged in
human activities. These "stories" are often romantic and filled with gentle
humor. The appeal of these
fantasy paintings is undeniable,
and Mosanto has had considerable success with his exhibits in both the US and
Haiti.
