Gesner Abelard was born in 1922 in
Port-au-Prince. He first began his artistic career as a sculptor, studying with
Ulberman Charles. In 1946 he joined the Art Center. He is best known for his
paintings, which are often characterized by their depiction of unusual birds and
trees.
