As with other Saint-Soleil painters, Pierre-Louis looks to Voodoo and the lives of the spirit for inspiration. His fascination with and understanding of the mysteries of Voodoo seems natural, as his father was a Hougan (Voodoo Priest). His paintings are an exploration of the spirit world and are often done in series, so that he can push each image through all its possibilities. Considered the dominant magician of Saint-Soleil, he is internationally known. His pieces are valuable investments as well as powerful symbols of Haitian spirituality. Pierre-Louis died in October of 1996. |
