![]() Haitian Art Co. Home Page | Philome Obin, born in 1892, is largely responsible for the flowering of Haitian Art since 1945. His painting inspired and nourished DeWitt Peters in the early years of the Centre d'Art. Later, as director of its Cap-Haitien branch, he inspired generations of painters. During the 1980s, his paintings commanded five figures on public auction at Sotheby's. This page features paintings by his children and nephews, working in the distinctive Obin style. The paintings, oil on masonite, date from the late 1960s and early '70s. They were acquired from the McGrath-Willis Estate in 2004. |
